A specialist engineering consultancy deliveringandnbsp;bespoke subsea and marine equipmentandnbsp;is looking to recruit aandnbsp;Lead Mechanical Design Engineerandnbsp;to join its growing team.
This is a key hire into a small, highly experienced group of engineers with strong roots in the North East subsea sector. The business was founded by engineers with a passion for keeping high-quality engineering in the region.
With a rapidly growing order book and projects moving quickly from concept to delivery, this role offers the opportunity to take real ownership of complex, one-off mechanical systems.

Lead Mechanical Design Engineer - The Role:
As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will take a leading role in theandnbsp;full lifecycle design of bespoke subsea equipment, working from initial concept through to manufacture, test, and deployment.andnbsp;
- Leading concept and detailed design of complex mechanical systems
- Performing hand calculations and stress analysis
- Taking ownership of full project delivery, not just isolated design packages
- Supporting manufacture, assembly, and factory acceptance testing (FAT)
- Producing and reviewing technical documentation
- Acting as a technical point of contact for clients
- Mentoring and supporting junior engineers within the team
- Conducting peer reviews and contributing to engineering standards
Lead Mechanical Design Engineer - The Person:
This role would suit an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer looking to step into andmdash; or already operating at andmdash; a senior/lead level within aandnbsp;small, high-performing engineering team.
- -5+ yearsandrsquo; experience inandnbsp;mechanical design within subsea, marine, or oil andamp; gas
- Proven experience deliveringandnbsp;full lifecycle projectsandnbsp;(concept andrarr; manufacture)
- Strong capability inandnbsp;hand calculations and stress analysis
- Experience designingandnbsp;fabricated structures and mechanical systems
- Background in companies such as subsea OEMs or specialist engineering firms
- CAD experience (Inventor ideal, SolidWorks also suitable)
- Strong communication skills and ability to work closely within a small team
- A proactive, hands-on approach with a willingness to take ownership
