Section Engineer - Devonport Docks

Job Description

Randstad are seeking a Section Engineer to join our project team delivering a major redevelopment of a high-security, live government facility at Devonport Docks. Due to the sensitive nature of this site, specific security clearance protocols and eligibility criteria are mandatory for all successful applicants.

Scope of works includes: RC, Drainage, Groundworks etc

This is a long term freelance contract (12 Months+) paid UMBRELLA PAYE

Lodge allowance will be paid for applicable candidates



Security andamp; Eligibility Requirements

  • Clearance: Successful candidates must obtain BPSS security clearance (approx. 8-week process) followed by SC security clearance (approx. 4-week process).
  • Residency: You must have resided in the UK for the past 5 consecutive years.
  • Nationality: Candidates must hold a passport from a NATO or MISWG member country.



Key Responsibilities andamp; Technical Accountabilities

  • Documentation andamp; Records: Manage the preparation of 'as-built drawings', maintain the drawing register, and ensure all site instructions are formally recorded.
  • Quality Management: Establish and manage effective systems to record completed work, updating the Project Quality Plan to ensure progress is reviewed against time, quality, dimensions, and quantity.
  • Workmanship Testing: Assist in the recording and testing of workmanship and materials, including drainage, concrete, piling, and brickwork.
  • Technical Support: Provide engineering guidance to resolve technical problems and ensure all technical queries (RFIs) are answered promptly.
  • Dimensional Control: Responsible for providing and maintaining setting out and dimensional control to ensure construction within allowable tolerances; regularly verify setting out points and benchmarks.
  • Equipment Compliance: Ensure all setting out instruments and measuring equipment arrive on-site with valid calibration certificates and are recorded accordingly.
  • Site Communication: Manage the preparation of sketches for site distribution and ensure the workforce fully understands the setting out information provided.
  • Safety andamp; Standards: Maintain awareness of corporate Safety, Health, and Environmental Management Systems to assist in maintaining a secure working environment.



Technical Requirements andamp; Expertise

  • Reinforcement andamp; Formwork: Deep understanding of reinforcement detailing and sequencing; significant experience with Formwork and Falsework.
  • Temporary Works: Specific experience in Temporary Works for FRC (Framework, Reinforcement, and Concrete); must hold TWC Certification.
  • Design andamp; Review: Proven experience in reviewing and producing Temporary Works Design (TWD) Briefs.
  • Planning: Experienced in short-term project planning, including 6-week look-ahead (6WKLAH) schedules.
  • Constructability: Expertise in developing and producing constructability reviews and detailed planning documentation for heavy FRC works.



Key Requirements andamp; Expertise

* Academic Qualifications - Civil Engineering related Qualification (HNC, BSc, MSc, BEng, MEng)
* SMSTS
* CSCS - White PQP/AQP or Black Managers
* May be working towards Chartership/Incorporation with IStructE, ICE or other appropriate professional
body.
