Job Description

Role: Site Technician

Location: Northampton

Salary: £35,000 - £40,000 basic pay approx. + over time on top + company vehicle

Overtime: time and a half, plus £50 per night if staying away but rare

Hours: 9- 5pm Monday Friday. Hours on customer sites may vary based on site operations.

About the role

We are a small company designing, trialling and scaling new technology to change the way waste is handled to minimise landfill. We are looking for someone with experience who is passionate about sustainability and keen for a new challenge in the waste sector.

The role will require regular travel and the need to be flexible on work schedule to support business demands.

Main Purpose of Job

To become a dependable member of the team, with the ability to support the installation, testing and commissioning of the product range at client locations across the UK but mainly Northampton.

The role is hands-on and site based, ensuring systems are operating as expected and performing troubleshooting activities, while building knowledge and experience over time.

You will provide day to day support (on site), conduct servicing and troubleshooting, complete on- site testing (following protocol) and be supported and guided by senior team members

Key responsibilities

Support installation of new systems as required.

Assist in the commissioning and optimisation of the systems.

Support testing and ongoing development work (on customer sites and in the Trowbridge office)

Train on-site operatives on how to load and empty the system

Update maintenance and health & safety documents

Report updates regularly to wider team, including data capture, progress updates, risks and issues.

About You

This role would suit someone early in their career or looking to move into a field-based role. You will enjoy hands-on work, learning new skills, and working in a customer-facing environment. You'll be passionate about new technology and working in sustainability.

You will work as part of a small Operations team and collaborate closely with engineers, project managers, and technical specialists.

Key Skills and Experience:

  • 3-4 years' experience in a hands-on or technical role (e.g. engineering, maintenance, mechanical or similar)
  • Willingness to learn and develop technical skills on the job
  • Basic understanding of mechanical or electrical systems (desirable but not essential)
  • Ability to follow processes and work under guidance
  • Good attention to detail and problem-solving approach
  • Strong communication skills, particularly when working on customer sites
  • Comfortable completing reports and recording information accurately
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel and stay away from home regularly

What you'll actually be doing

  • Using testing equipment to monitor the performance of the systems
  • On site testing of waste samples (following protocol)
  • Carry out basic repairs - mechanical / electrical
  • Troubleshooting
  • Using an iPad
  • Advocating the company when on site / at all times
  • Being the eyes and ears of the company while on site
  • Staying away by the customer's site - typically the same site for a period of time.

To be successful you will also be expected to:

  • Assist in planning and preparing work schedules
  • Ensure all work is properly documented and reported
  • Prepare for site activities, including gathering necessary tools and information
  • Use tools and equipment safely and responsibly

What a day may look like:

  • Fixing electrical faults and sensors that may need rewiring and creating new plugs and wires
  • Turn up on site and ensure the client is using the system / machine
  • Monitor its input and out put levels and make reports
  • Check the Vapour sensors and performance on the tablet
  • check the chambers and thermal readings (outside) for amonia
  • collect samples that need to be monitored for 24 hours
  • ensure all bolts and screws are in tact
  • test all timings work with the customer to provide feeback and solutions with 3rd parties
